St. Amedeus Secondary School

It has been a good tradition and custom of the Catholic Church to see to it that her sons and daughters are given a fine environment to grow spiritually, morally and intellectually. Since the time in memorial the Catholic Church has facilitated the provision of quality education and hence had produced classic intellectual people like St. Albert. Thomas Aquinas, St. Augustine and the like. They are the product and a living witness of such church efforts. The Catholic Diocese of Moshi carries on this legacy in our time. We I can say, St. Amedeus existed in God’s mind and it has only come visible in the appropriate time, to continue the same commitment of the Church, of unveiling the truth through the quality education to our children.

The idea to start St. Amedeus was a dream of the Bishop emeritus Rt. Rev. Amedeus Msarikie who actually began its construction on the 27/03/2007. The building affair was particularly very difficult party due to droughts and water problems; but also due to financial limits. However, the determination and persistence made it a success. Our current bishop Rt. Rev. Isaac Amani - Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Moshi gave it full support, he in fact championed the opening of St. Amedeus since the year 2009. He wanted to see to it that the school was due to be opened in January 2010.

Sure enough, on 16th January 2010 the school was officially opened and the new students for the new school arrived. These were 110 students. The school was registered officially with the Ministry of Education and was given No. S.4244. St. Amedeus was also registered as the centre for the National Examination Council of Tanzania (NECTA) and was given No. S.4405. The school has already established the school board of Governors and it first chairman is Mr. Aquilin Kinabo- Ex lecturer of the University of Dar es Salaam.

With regards to the Administrative and first teaching staff , Faustine Furaha was appointed as the first Headmaster, who works hand in hand with other 6 members of the staff.

The school has an entrance Exams and it admits all the students from any religion or any tribe but we give priority to the children around and from average income families.

At its completion the school expects to have more than 600 students.
